Measure the furniture zone, not the empty floor

Compare neighbouring sizes on the same floor plan

Round and oval sizes are different decisions

Measure the space in the same units used for the product and compare the listed finished dimensions rather than assuming every rug grouped under a nominal size is identical.
Record the footprint before you compare color
A simple floor plan prevents many sizing mistakes. Note wall-to-wall dimensions, the furniture that must sit on or around the rug, door swings, vents and narrow circulation points. Photograph the taped outline from the main doorway and from seated eye level. Once the footprint works from both views, material, pattern and color become much easier choices because the basic proportion is already solved.
